Extractions
We do simple extractions, more complex extractions such as badly impacted wisdom teeth, will be referred to spcialist oral surgeons.
We do simple extractions, more complex extractions such as badly impacted wisdom teeth, will be referred to spcialist oral surgeons.
They come in all shapes and sizes and vary from the simple to the complex. You have the choice of amalgam (silver mercury), glass ionomer (tooth coloured), composite (tooth coloured), CEREC 3 cad-cam (tooth coloured) and gold restorations. The choice of fillings material for your filling should be discussed with your dentist once an examination has been made and the tooth assessed.
If the remaining tooth structure is sufficiently weakened a more extensive restoration, such as a crown may be recommended. This procedure may strengthen and promote the long term health of the tooth. However crowns are not necessarily the answer to all the tooth's problem, a panacea) Approximately 12% of all crowned teeth will need root fillings within 12 months of crown placement. If the tooth has been insulted enough by decay, wear or trauma the nerve will die and it will need a root canal filling.
These are required when the nerve dies. If the nerve dies, noxious degradation products and bacteria can enter the bone that surrounds the tooth. This sets up an inflammation which can lead to an abscess. This collection of pus either inside or outside of the tooth can be extremely painful.
Sometimes the tooth can beyond saving and after an extraction a way of replacing it needs to be considered. A tooth can be replaced using a denture, a bridge or a titanium implant. All have their benefits such as cheapness of cost, but may have their biological costs.
Bridges are the middle of the range in cost, they are less damaging to the gums as they are wholly supported by the teeth using crowns. The crowns and bridges can be either porcelain fused to gold, or all porcelain. There are limitations on the mechanical properties of the material used so not all can be used everywhere.
Titanium implants have been used for 40 years to replace missing teeth. It is the most financially costly option of tooth replacement, but in the right circumstance the best in biological cost, as the teeth adjacent do not have to be prepared for a crown. Implants can be used to stabilize a denture, and can be most useful when a denture has a mind of its own.
We can offer you 20 year old technology using 3-dimensional Cad/Cam dentistry. Up to date porcelain technology along with the latest in adhesive dentistry combined to produce the greatest longevity of all the tooth coloured restorative materials. 96.5% 5 year survival rates have been achieved for CEREC 3 compared with 82% for composite plastic and 75% for glass ionomer tooth coloured material.
We construct full and partial dentures with or without cobalt chrome re-enforcement.
We refer only to qualified specialist orthodontists. Regular maintenance is important and without it any restorative work that we do will not last as long.
The practice has a Diode Laser for painless removal of soft tissue (gums).
This is a computer tracking system to track all instruments used for each patient. This is an industry requirement.
